National Children’s Museum and General Motors Collaborate to Inspire Future Engineers on July 19

July 14, 2023
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Day of Programming Will Include Three-Car Display and Engineering Challenges Supported by GM Engineers

WASHINGTON – National Children’s Museum and General Motors (GM) are teaming up to host GM Day on Wednesday, July 19, a full day of hands-on programming that will capitalize on young learners’ love of automobiles as an opportunity to explore engineering concepts.

Throughout the day, car enthusiasts will have the opportunity to:

Climb into the driver’s seat of a Chevrolet Corvette, GMC Hummer EV, and GMC Sierra. The vehicles will be displayed on the Woodrow Wilson Plaza, directly outside the Museum at 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Vehicle experts will be available to answer visitors’ questions.

Design and build their own car to test at the Museum’s 25-foot-long On the Go-Go racetrack. From ideation to evaluation, visitors will engage in the design cycle to build their own car, just like GM engineers!

Complete a wind-powered vehicle tinkering challenge. Visitors will dream up a vehicle that can traverse different terrains using only the power of wind.

As visitors try their hand at designing vehicles, they will meet and collaborate with two GM engineers: Rae Howard, Emerging ESG Sustainability Strategies Manager, and MaryAnn Beebe, Accessibility Program Engineering Manager – Autonomous Vehicles.

All GM Day programming is included in the price of Museum admission, and the car display will be accessible by members of the general public. Tickets to the Museum are $15.95 for adults and children 1 and older and are free for children under 1 and Museum members.
