Washington, DC’s children deserve a world-class museum to spark their imagination and encourage them to dream. When National Children’s Museum reopens steps off the National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue in early 2020, it will be an innovative, modern institution that celebrates the joy of childhood through science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) exhibits and programs. As the AV/IT Technician, you will help realize this vision for the Museum’s reopening and subsequently for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

what you’ll do

As AV/IT Technician, reporting to the Director of Operations and Director of Exhibits and Education, you will be a critical member of the team. You will support the Museum’s technology infrastructure and integration to ensure overall success. As the Museum’s resident tinkerer, and techie, you will ensure all Museum IT systems and exhibits function smoothly and safely. In addition, this position will work to develop and/or execute the following: 

Work with Operations to ensure simple Museum ticketing and gift shop UX and integration of the overall Museum IT infrastructure;

Collaborate with Exhibits and Education Team to plan and coordinate new exhibits and experiences; 

Manage the upkeep of exhibits and interactives, Museum equipment and related supplies to meet functional, safety and aesthetic standards; 

Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and service exhibits and interactives, including electrical and mechanical systems; 

Design and complete preventive maintenance schedules following policies and procedures; 

Oversee appropriate maintenance, supply, and repair logs; 

Coordinate exhibit technical and mechanical knowledge training for floor staff and provide technical assistance as needed;

Other duties as assigned. 

what we believe are important experiences + traits for this role

At least 5+ years experience in electronics/hardware engineering and/or fabrication, invention, repair, and/or construction administration;

Extensive knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and deep experience with hands-on equipment maintenance;

Thorough knowledge of computer systems and IT components and experience with LAN/WAN networks;

Excellent troubleshooting skills; 

Demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects, prioritize work, and meet aggressive deadlines;

Collaborative, communicative, creative, and meticulously organized with enthusiasm for designing and implementing new projects;

Insatiable curiosity with an eagerness to learn, willing to ask questions, and apply feedback.
