Steps off the National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue, National Children’s Museum celebrates the joy of childhood through science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) exhibits and programs. As an Education Specialist, you will help realize this vision for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

what you’ll do

As an Education Specialist, reporting to the Manager of Learning and Engagement, you will be a critical member of the National Children’s Museum team. Splitting your time between sharing your magnetic ability to inspire young learners and providing critical administrative support for the Exhibits and Education team, you will help National Children’s Museum grow as a rich learning and teaching environment. You will support the full Museum team in efforts that ensure swift growth and overall success. This position will work to develop and/or execute the following:

Implement STEAM-based educational programming for children ages 0-12 and their adults that enriches the visitor experience and supports the organizational goals and mission;

Lead onsite and community outreach programs for a variety of audiences including field trips, pop up programs, early childhood and family programs, birthday parties, and special events;

Collaborate with the Exhibits and Education Team to develop, test, and evaluate new programs and curriculum;

Represent National Children’s Museum at community outreach, festivals, and events as needed, prep materials and assist with crowd control;

Assist Exhibits and Education Team with ongoing administrative priorities including field trip scheduling, logistics management, and other educational priorities;

Welcome and check in groups, facilitate floor programs as needed;

Serve as Museum ambassador and provide exceptional customer service to potential guests over email and phone;

Maintain programming schedules and databases of relevant contacts of interest;

Other duties as assigned.

what we believe are important experiences + traits for this role

At least 2+ years experience in teaching, theater, working with children of various ages and/or experience leading programs for early childhood, K-12 education, and/or informal learning environments, museum experience a plus;

Working knowledge and demonstrated interest in STEAM disciplines;

Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills;

Previous experience with database management;

Collaborative, creative, meticulously organized, and demonstrated facility engaging young learners;

Insatiable curiosity with an eagerness to learn, willing to ask questions, and apply feedback;

Bilingual in English/Spanish is strongly preferred.


Full-time position, Sunday – Thursday.
