Washington DC’s children deserve a world-class museum to spark their imagination and encourage them to dream. When National Children’s Museum reopens steps off the National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue in 2020, this innovative, modern museum will celebrate the joy of childhood through science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) exhibits and programs. As Operations Intern, you will help realize this vision for the Museum’s reopening.

what you’ll do

As the Museum prepares to reopen near the National Mall in 2020, this internship is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys wearing many hats, thrives in a high-energy setting, and seeks to make their mark through critical systems development and support. Working directly with the Operations Manager, the Operations Intern will assist in the daily operations of the Museum, solving issues as they arise for both the floor staff and visitors to ensure that the Museum delivers extraordinary learning experiences for children and their families. Responsibilities may include: 

Monitor daily visitor engagement, exhibit/facility upkeep, customer service, lost children, accident/incident intervention and reporting, lost + found, etc.;

Facilitate seamless Museum admissions process and guest services;

Develop and communicate employee practices and protocols, including safety standards, customer service best practices, and scheduling protocols; 

Assist with procurement and budgeting; 

Aid in grant writing initiatives;

Provide logistical and preparatory support for events and meetings as needed;

Support office activity and performing clerical duties as needed;

Act as a public face for National Children’s Museum.

Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and G-Suite

Previous experience working with constituent relationship management systems (Salesforce) a plus

Interest in museums and/or non-profit operations

Must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program to receive credit

hours

To begin mid-January through mid-May – 16/hours per week based on your existing schedule – $500 stipend to cover expenses.
