salt painting
april 14
We’re combining science AND art in today’s #STEAMwork science exploration with Crystal (and Preston!). See absorption in action and bring your salt drawings to life with vibrant colors!
behind the science
Many salts are a hygroscopic substance, which means it can absorb liquid water and water vapor in the air.
try another experiment
After experimenting with raised line salt painting, another technique you can try is applying salt to your watercolor painting. This is called salt lifting, which leaves a crystalized texture when the water is absorbed. You watch this video by Mr. Otter Studio comparing table salt, sea salt and Himalayan pink salt.
